From the Old Citywalls to the Former Jewish Quarter
Discover the quietest and most hidden locations off the beaten track in Old Vienna.
Beautiful baroque palaces of famous aristocratic families were built close to the former Imperial Palace ? this vicinity demonstrated their power. The medieval Minoritenkirche ? the Church of the Minor Brothers - is situated in this quiet area.
Although the city walls were torn down more than 150 years ago, we can still see some parts of Vienna?s strong fortifications today. I will take you to the dwellings where Beethoven moved several times, and to the so-called ?Schubert House?, an impressive example of Biedermeier architecture.
Old narrow lanes, passage-ways and squares offer excellent photographic motives.
You will be impressed by insights into deep cellars, old monasteries and churches.
The tour ends in the Judenplatz, the former area of Vienna?s medieval Jewish Quarter ? today a picturesque square with the modern Monument for the Victims of the Shoa, the Jewish Museum and numerous eating-places around.
